Havent posted in a while, still waiting on visa but getting so depressed in the meantime. Did not get State sponsorship as could not come up with 27000aus dollars and down 500 euro for applying for it so back in the pipeline for the skilled visa. Again we are thinking another route of partner going on WHV (as he is eligible) and me and kids follow in few mths on 6month holiday visa. While there maybe get sponsorship visa.
Its probably possible but a lot or risk taking i think. But nothing happening here in Ireland so what do you think? Open to options or advice, Thanks! |

Nell,
I feel your pain and sympathise with you. However, there does appear to be a lot of risks in the working holiday visa. It is increasingly difficult to get 'permanent' jobs over here if you do not have the appropriate visa to match. It does happen but not a whole lot. Employers are very aware of their legal obligations in relation to who they employ and they tend to be more interested in taking skilled people on who are on long term visas. Having said that, anything is possible and nothing ventured, nothing gained. Big call. If you have the cash to do it and are desperate, why not go for it. Worse case scenario is that you are back in Ireland 1 year later and the visa is 1 year nearer.
Hope this helps a tiny bit!

Hi Nell,
Jesus this visa process is a pain in the backside. Was it Queensland for the sponsorship. They are the only state that are requiring liquid cash, other states just require details of equity in house etc, and how you plan to cover your costs, and that you have costed it sufficiently. How many people have that kind of money sitting in a bank account??? Most have their money tied up in their house I would think.
Just check, but I think there is a condition of the WHV, that you dont have dependents (sorry, not definite, but think I read that, please check).
On a more positive note, we were on WHV's, and my husbands employer wanted to keep him, so he sponsored him on a 457 (temp business visa, 2-4 years). Even better if they sponsor you on a ENS visa.

Hi Nell,
Sorry you didn't get the SS visa. One of the criteria for getting a WHV is that you cannot have any dependent children. I found the following on another site.
The Australian working holiday visa allows you to spend up to 24 months working and travelling in Australia. You are eligible to apply for this Australian visa if:
* you are aged between 18 to 30 inclusive at the date of your visa application
* you have no dependent children
* you have not received an Australian working holiday visa before
* you hold a passport from the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Italy and Canada
Take care.

Hi Dor
yes i am aware of that but when i looked into it its actually dependant children travelling with you, as a letter would have to accompany my partners visa application from me stating I am taking care of children.
Sounds so silly doesn't it, but has been done.
Thanks Dor for your comment. |

Hi Nell,
How about your OH go over on the whv, and use it to find a job, a company that would be willing to sponsor. a 457 would take a few weeks, then you could follow out and be covered on that visa ????
we went from a whv to a 457, thats how alot do it.
its all very daunting i know.
good luck with it.
